Math gaps don’t magically fix themselves. If foundational skills aren’t addressed, they compound and get worse. This teacher taught the same students in 2nd and 5th - the same students were struggling. 🔗 Link below #ChalkandTalk #MathEducation #Teaching

Neither do reading gaps fix themselves.

In California the system is designed to force all students to go with the pace of the very worst at math students, the curriculum is built to provide students with math problems designed foe students who are struggling at math.

Who is truly behind the pervasive dumbing down of our kids by education system? It's rooted in the universities teaching the teachers poor techniques. Anyone who was classically taught (with explicit instruction) can see how the new ways are very bad. Why don't these teachers in training realize it in university? It's so obvious.

That’s when the parent needs to hire a tutor. Also, why are there only girls in the video? I’m assuming that you didn’t create it.

What do you propose for parents who can't afford to hire a tutor? If you listen to the video, you'd hear that he's talking about the same kid struggling in g2 as in g5 so it's meant to illustrate the same kid. If we'd used a boy there would only be boys in the video.

Oh, it’s painfully clear that he’s speaking of the same children that are struggling. Lots of students volunteer as tutors. Sometimes retirees do, too… The video software is sexist, yikes!

Problem started by replacing rigorous real math with Illustrative Math. China, Russia & the Middle East already have strong high school math programs. Bring together math professors from 🇨🇦uni & build a rigorous curriculum that actually prepares kids for STEM

If you say you care about kids you wouldn’t pass them forward without them being proficient at grade level. It’s that simple. Support them and tutor them and make sure they can read and do math at grade level.
