Mathematician vs Engineer solving the same equation 😂 Which method do you prefer?

Engineer doesn't even bother writing "x=9-5" - just straight to "x=4"

An engineer and a mathematician are sitting on a park bench on one of the main malls of Central Park across the walk from a pretty young woman. At the other end of her bench is a hopeful young man They notice that every 30 seconds the suitor halves the distance between them. "The fool!" whispers the mathematician. "Doesn't he know that by halving the distance between them, he can NEVER reach the girl." "Ah, yes," replies the engineer, "but he can get close enough for all practical applications."

The irony is is mathematicians have to tutor engineering students!

Here i am doing 27/3 = 9 9-5 = 4 X=4....

How you take get the answer no concern me ooo but you see that handwriting,it's so on point 💯

In my head: 3 x what equals 27 9 therefore x equals 4

@GraceGym_ Layperson (1) 3 x ? = 27 2) 3 x 9 =27 Therefore 3 x (4+5) =27

Engineers skip straight to the approximation that works in the real world.

I am an engineer following this. And I don't need pen and paper.

I don’t agree. The mathematician sees the chance of simplyfying the ecuation and always searches for a more elegant solution, but the engineer aplies the rules he learned at math course and uses math rules only to find the solution to his technical problem.

We are all mathematician, we don't like short cuts, right? We follow the rules of engagement in BODMAS. 😊

Religion would have gotten 4 different answers.

Oddly, I normally need to use my fingers for basic addition and subtraction (bc I was in advanced math and given a graphing calculator in 3rd grade so I didn't memorize basics) BUT I could do the engineering way in my head, still skipped a few steps, and didn't need to use my fingers to count... why? Why can I do complex math problems in my head but need to use my fingers for basic addition and subtraction?

No way, for a Mathematician is easy using factors, factors of 27 is 3^3 so, just the 9 can be multiplied by 3 and give 27, you just need to solve x + 5 = 9 and evidently x = 4; this is a 3 seconds reasoning for a mathematician

Bullshit ! I’m an engineer. Look at the equation then = 4 . Forget the rest

youre trying to get to 27. 3 x what equals 27? 9. 4+5 =9 x =4

No mathematician is solving it that way. Mathe is the science to simplify, since mathematicians are kind of lazy;-))

I'll give you better shortcut. RHS = 27. Which can be written as 3×9. So, if LHS = 3(x+5). And LHS has to become equal to RHS. That means x+5 should be equal to 9. Thus, 4+5 = 9. x=4

The second one (Engineer)

My method is to look at the equation and go "x=4".

Second method is dependent on if the coefficient is directly divisible of the unknown

¿Desde cuándo un matemático no factoriza? O lo pones porque crees que queda más interesante... Hacer vídeos de divulgación engañando al personal es bastante patético y te hace quedar como una pobre ignorante

This is how they should have explained to us in schools.

What matters with lecturers are your steps, if you exempt them, your marks would be exempted as well.

Nobody in their right mind would expand the LHS when the RHS is divisible by the coefficient of the LHS.

or 27 divided by three (9)equals x+5. 9-5 =x (4)

As a logician 1. I'll think of the number to just fill up that will equate 27. 2. Then easily know it's 4

Engineer mom homeschooling a future engineer -- I remember slapping him (not really) for distributing unnecessarily. 😂

İşlemden daha çok yazının güzelliğine takıldım

I can see the answer before even answering

Engineer was taught by a mathematician

I can relate 👌

Left works in all situations, right is great when there is a common number to divide by.
