Here are a few of our favourite mathematicians. Some famous, some less famous and one not famous at all. Who's yours?

A team of mathematicians just built the first “monostable” tetrahedron. Someday, it might help inform the design of a self-righting spacecraft.

If AI cures cancer: researchers will rejoice. If AI finds aliens: astronomers will be in awe If AI solves math problems? Mathematicians will panic? Where is the intellectual curiosity and the pursuit of truth?

Long after the Mandelbrot set went out of vogue, four mathematicians remained devoted to understanding it. It was a privilege to report their story -- a story about exploration and the power of technology to shape the most abstract realms of human thought.

While traditional investors relied on news, intuition, and corporate earnings reports, Simons took a scientific approach: • He hired mathematicians, physicists, and computer scientists instead of traders. • He collected data on stock prices going back to the 1800s. • He built mathematical models to predict short-term price movements.

Cardano and ADA are named after two mathematicians who lived 300 years apart Cardano is named after Gerolamo Cardano, a 16th-century Italian polymath who worked as a doctor and mathematician. Its coin, $ADA, honors Ada Lovelace, the 19th-century English mathematician often called the first computer programmer. ADA’s smallest unit, the lovelace, also carries her name, much like Bitcoin’s satoshi. One ADA equals 1,000,000 lovelace. The theme runs through Cardano’s roadmap. Its main development phases are named after poets, starting with Byron, after Lovelace’s father, the poet Lord Byron. The one exception is Goguen, after computer scientist Joseph Goguen. Since 2021, Cardano’s network upgrade eras follow mathematicians and computer scientists in A-B-C order, such as Alonzo and Babbage.
