Matt Damon couldn’t stand Edward Norton for taking roles he auditioned for. “Edward was always in the running. After Primal Fear, I wanted to go up to him and say ‘Just stop.’ “We went out, got drunk, and I said ‘I’m f*cked, but great to meet you, man.’”

The studio wanted Leonardo DiCaprio for the role of Aaron Stampler in "Primal Fear" (1996). But he turned it down. Around 2100 actors from California to England were auditioned for the role. Edward Norton and Pedro Pascal were part of the audition. Pascal said, "My first audition was for 'Primal Fear' (1996). I was totally in over my head. I auditioned for that in New York and then I went to L.A. for it. I didn’t get it and was unemployed for about 10 years." Those who had seen Norton’s two screen tests said that many of the actors vying for the role simply took a seat and began exchanging dialogue. Norton, however, chose to sit in a corner and decided that the character should have a stutter. Director Gregory Hoblit said what gave Aaron’s character such strength was Norton’s ability to appear as an ordinary person. Hoblit said, "We needed someone young and believable and who had a certain innocence about them, Edward had all of those qualities." (Pedro Pascal's interview with Sarah Paulson, Interview magazine, 2014 & "Everybody's Talking but Him : Edward Norton Lets His Star-Making Turn in 'Primal Fear' Speak for Itself", LA Times, Robert W. Welkos, 1996) P.S: Happy 57th birthday, Edward Norton!

Matt Damon says his agent told him he had a 5% chance for Good Will Hunting and was only there to fill the slot Matt :"Patrick called me out of the blue and he said I'm telling you right now you have a 5% chance at best of getting this movie" "They're screen testing in Memphis and they've got three girls that they're screen testing and they only have two guys. If you go to the airport right now and get on a plane and fly to Memphis you're going to be the third guy" "you have almost no chance and you're just filling in and I'm like great just put me in and get me on the field. So I flew down there and it was Edward Norton, Balthazar Getty, and me. Edward had just beaten everybody out in LA for Primal Fear"

Cinema is Edward Norton. Norton, who stars in next week’s adult comedy The Invite, is always pushing the creative envelope. Norton’s break out role in Primal Fear nearly won him an Oscar. He lost to Cuba Gooding Jr. for Jerry Maguire. But this role was the start of a career that’s been sheer Cinema ever since.

Richard Gere reveals he was ready to walk away from Primal Fear because they couldn’t find the right actor to play Aaron until Edward Norton auditioned. “We couldn’t find an actor to play that part. All the big young actors wanted it, but they weren’t believable as being normal.” “I was ready to walk because I said, ‘We can’t do it without an actor who can play that part. It won’t work.’” “Then this kid walked into an open casting call. It was Ed. We tested him, and he was fabulous.” “We tested him again because we thought maybe it was a fluke. He was even better the second time.” “He was and is that kind of extraordinary talent. He can be believable and lying at the same time.”

Matt Damon reveals Ridley Scott talked him out of turning down The Martian in six blunt words Matt Damon: "I actually once went to meet Sir Ridley Scott to turn down The Martian because I had just done that part in Interstellar." Matt Damon: "I got so in my head, I said, 'Well, I just played a guy stranded on a planet. I can't then go play a guy stranded on a planet.' This is me classically, stupidly overthinking things." Matt Damon: "So I said that out loud to Ridley, and without missing a beat, he goes, 'Oh, no one gives a s**t.'" Matt Damon: "And I was like, 'All right, I'll do it.' It was one of the great decisions I've made in my life."

Jon Bernthal reveals the hilarious way comic book stores treated him after he was cast as the Punisher. “I went to a comic book store in Ventura, and there’s a guy smoking a cigarette outside. I said, ‘Yeah, man, I’m just looking for some Punisher comics.’ He goes, ‘Yeah, we don’t have much since the announcement.’ I’m like, ‘Announcement?’ I’m thinking, ‘That’s me. That’s my announcement.’ I thought, ‘Do I be a total douche and go over to the guy and be like, “Yeah, actually, I’m the guy?”’ So I just said, ‘Hey, man, if you could…’ And then he looked up and said, ‘Wow, it’s you.’ He was so cool and helpful. He told me, ‘You need to read this, this and this,’ and gave them to me for free. Then I went to New York and into a comic book store in Brooklyn. I got a whole stack and went up to buy them. He looks at me and goes, ‘Yeah, I know who you are.’ I said, ‘Okay, cool, man. I just want to buy these comics.’ He goes, ‘No, you don’t. You’re not taking this, you’re not taking this. You need to read this, this, this and this.’ I was like, ‘Okay, dude.’ And he goes, ‘Do not mess this up.’ Got it. Conan: “Did you get it for free?” Jon Bernthal: “No, man. No, not at all.”

Richard Gere says many big-name young actors auditioned for the role in Primal Fear (1996), but "they did fine with the crazy part... but they weren't believable as being normal." Gere recalled, "I was ready to walk because I said we can't do it without an actor who can play that part, it won't work." Then Edward Norton walked into an open call. Gere said, "This kid walked in, I think he's really terrific." After Norton's first test, Gere remembered, "He was fabulous. And we all went, 'Wow, what has he done?' Nothing." They tested him again, and "it was even better the second time." Gere concluded, "He was and is that kind of extraordinary talent that he can be believable and lying at the same time."

Kevin Johnson says he lost a bet to Charles Barkley and had to go to a strip club with him. Barkley owed him a church visit but never paid, he sent Dr. J instead “Charles was known for going out. Like, for real going out. So he would be coming in Sunday morning at like 7:00 a.m., and I’d be going out, cuz I’m going to church” “So he coming from the strip clubs this way, and I’m going to church that way. So the thing was, ‘Hey, guy, pray for me’” “Charles and I had a bet one time. I ain’t gonna tell you what the bet was, but if I won, he had to go to church with me. And if he won, I had to go to strip club with him. Whatever the bet was, I lost” “That man made me go to a strip club with him in Houston. I ain’t know what to do. He said, ‘Just sit right there. They’re going to do the rest.’ I say, ‘How long I going to be in there?’ It was like an hour. I hopped out. I was sweating and everything. But I paid my bet up” “He said he was going to go to church with me, but he never went. And then one day Dr. J went to church with me, and I figured Dr. J probably went for Charles”

Robin Williams found Good Will Hunting’s final line after 60 takes, and it wasn’t originally in the script, according to Matt Damon. “Robin would open the door and come out and find the letter, and I was right next to Gus Van Sant, next to the camera. “I would say – because we wanted [it to look like] Robin heard my voice – ‘Sean if the professor calls about that job, tell him I’m sorry. I had to go see about a girl.’ So I’d say that.” “And what was scripted was that he just takes a moment and realises I’m gone. But in true Robin fashion, we did like 60 takes. We just left the camera rolling… and he did something different every single time. “I remember when he said, ‘Son of a bitch, he stole my line,’ I grabbed Gus’s shoulders, and I felt him tense up. We both knew. We were like, ‘holy shit, what a line; how did we not think of that?’”
