Matthew Rhys says falling in love with Keri Russell while filming The Americans was something he never expected to happen again after a previous relationship with a co-star ended badly. “I remember at the time going, ‘Oh, no.’ Because I wouldn’t advise it.” But despite trying to avoid it, Rhys says he couldn’t fight what was happening. “And then kind of in my mid-30s, The Americans happens, and I was like, ‘Oh, no. This is happening again.’” Their relationship eventually became intertwined with their work, and Rhys admits it made filming difficult at times. “Wildly tricky.” “Sometimes when we would argue, I’d bring that into the scene and the director’s like, ‘What’s going on? You meant to be getting on really well.’” Despite all the complications, Rhys says he’d happily work with her again. “100%.”
