KIDS: Nic Dowd is from Alabama. Went to Culver Military Academy. Played in the NAHL then USHL. Went to college as a 20 year old freshman. Played four years at St. Cloud. Spent a couple full years in the AHL before being an NHL regular as a depth player. Now on the ice taking the faceoff in the Western Conference Finals up a goal in the Dzone with Jack Eichel and Mitch Marner on his wings. Everyone has a different path. And if your path is the long way, be a great teammate and a versatile player. Dowd is widely known as an unreal locker room glue guy. And a great role player. What an effort to score this goal beating everyone up the ice to seal it for Vegas. This is why I love watching the playoffs. Players who don't normally get the spotlight stepping up in big situations to help teams win. Hockey rules.

12-year-old Matthew Jordan Jr. was repeatedly punched, hit, and grabbed by students on a Fort Osage school bus in Independence, Missouri while others laughed. Matthew has autism. His family raised concerns with the district beforehand and was allegedly ignored. This is unacceptable! Every child deserves to feel safe, and it is the responsibility of our schools to protect them while in their care. Bullying in any form will not be tolerated.

We’re watching an 18-year-old rookie defenseman put up 21 goals through 69 games with the #Isles. Historic territory. But the harsh reality for the rest of the league is that his shot might be the most underrated part of his game. Schaefer’s shot toolkit plays like an elite shooting forward. The deception is next-level. He sells the pass or a low wrister, then manipulates the release point and trajectory mid-motion. Steps off the point, walks the line, changes the angle against the grain on his wrister, and picks corners that goalies are no longer set for. Excellent quick release combined with the ability to shoot through lanes or off bodies. His mid-range game stands out as one of the best among D this year and he’s generating high-quality chances from dangerous areas consistently. It’s hard not to stop and just say to yourself over and over again: He’s only 18. He’s only going to get better. He’s only 18. He’s only going to get better. He’s only 18.
