People want a reunion like things like were so great between them at the end. One of the last things Daryl ever said to Rick was that he need to get over his dead son. Which is ironic (and sad) given what eventually happened to Rick.

It got progressively worse since the prison to me - i don’t get what people are seeing .

They love each other like brothers. They don't have to agree on everything. Daryl has been looking for Rick for 8 years, that says something.
