Max has better single lap pace than most on the grid. Hamilton has always been more about concistently putting in a near optimal lap, where as LeClerc & Max have a more risk vs reward approach that leads to faster laps but greater risk of failure. When it works Max will be faster

He definitely didn't have the third fastest car on the grid. His car was faster than Bottas, but not faster than Hamilton in Quali in that weekend. His race pace though was much quicker so the red bull was quicker than the Mercedes in race pace during first half of the season.
