Max Scherzer was ejected (and suspended for 10 games) for getting caught with a foreign substance. Yet he says the stickiness was just from sweat and rosin, and this video by Trevor Bauer seems to support that. What am I missing?!

How do they not have any sort of substance testing protocol? Their investigation is seriously just “eh, looks illegal” The MLB is beyond a joke

Right. All three ejections for this have been by same umpire. MLB needed to crack down on "sticky stuff," but enforcement is tough/inconsistent when there's no clear standard.

When they started cracking down on foreign substances, they made the rosin stickier to appease pitchers (and help them not drill guys in the head). It’s possible to make the ball surprisingly sticky. And from what I’ve heard/believe, Scherzer’s not a cheater.

Scherzer should go to jail immediately.

If this is a problem, ban rosin. If it’s not, don’t suspend people for doing it. This should not be as difficult as they’re making it.

You’re missing the fact that these 2 Umps are feeling how sticky every Pitchers’ sweat and rosin is on a regular basis, and this was the stickiest that they’ve ever felt. This wasn’t from sweat and rosin that he was applying on the mound, it was “sweat and rosin” from dugout.

He misused the rosin. It cant be applied in the dugout. Also, he basically said “I washed my hands and then re-applied rosin and sweat” which to me sounds like he was really abusing the sweat part. MLB sent out a memo to teams this year saying rosin was illegal if abused

Seems like they should do away with anything that increases the pitchers ability. They’re already throwing 100mph from 60 ft away with 5 different pitches in the arsenal. Hitting a baseball is hard enough! Just like every other sport.. give me more offense!

When guys started using other substances all of the old timers said why….sweat and rosin can get really sticky. You’re missing nothing.

Without having a side in this fight, I’d say the piece missing is what’s in his hair. Sweat, rosin and any gel type substance could sure make it pretty sticky. Not saying he was, but objectively speaking that’s what’s missing.
