VOLKER: When Trump took office in January of '25, he thought this would be easy end to the war. Putin is stronger, Zelenskyy is weaker. You get Zelenskyy to give Putin something, Putin gets good deal, gets sanctions lifted, they all go off and make money, and everybody's happy. Trump thought that would be simple. It turns out not to be the case. Putin would not accept any deal because he wants all of Ukraine. Zelenskyy is not going to give away Ukrainian people and Ukrainian territory. Trump said at the time, you know, to Zelenskyy, "You don't have any cards." He was wrong. Zelenskyy has a lot of cards. I think Trump now realizes that. He sees that Zelenskyy actually has some cards and is able to use them well, and is maybe winning here. Putin, on the other hand, is gradually losing.

ZELENSKYY to BBC: We are ready to take steps toward compromise, especially if America is engaged. But America is not pushing for major concessions from Russia. It claims Russia is compromising, but in my view, Russia is making none. Putin has not achieved his main goals. He wanted to capture Donbas and secure recognition of the occupied territories as Russian. That was his core objective: the total occupation of eastern Ukraine. I am sure Putin does not want to simply stop, but that does not mean he cannot be stopped.

In response to Putin and Trump meeting for negotiations without him, Zelensky runs to NBC News and says he “will never accept any decisions between the United States and Russia about Ukraine”. Spoiler alert… yes he will. Zelensky will do exactly what he is told, because he does not have a choice. His security relies 100% on US funding. When Trump and Putin come to a deal, if Zelensky refuses, then the funding will be shut off, Ukraine will collapse, and Putin will take what he wants anyways. Zelensky has no say in the matter. He is a dead man walking.

Four years ago today, Vladimir Putin launched his full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Despite the enormous suffering these four years have brought, the Ukrainian people remain undaunted and determined to take back their country. Putin has made it clear he has no desire for peace, and believes if he waits long enough he will achieve his objectives. We cannot allow that to happen. If we bungle this, it will be a disaster for the deterrence that President Trump has worked so hard to restore, and will embolden not only Putin, but bad actors around the world. Ukraine's fight is our fight. Let's give them what they need to finish the job.

Not very openly, because he's afraid of his society, but he will do it the first days of October, if we will not bring him problems with logistics, weapon, petrol, diesel, and if our partners will not push total sanctions against his aggression.

The immense determination of Ukrainian warriors & civilians has prevented Putin from achieving any of his initial war aims: Tried to take all Ukraine—failed. Tried to overthrow Zelenskyy—failed. Tried to stop NATO expansion—failed. Putin is losing this war. I hope it ends soon.
