McGovern: House rules require a super majority vote for any bill that increases income taxes. Guess what? Republicans are turning that rule off. Why did they have to do that? Because they know this bill will increase taxes on those families struggling the most to put food on the table.

The "Big Ugly" Scam: f you’re rich, like country-club rich, you’re golden in a golden dome. Six-figure tax breaks, no questions asked. But if you're living paycheck to paycheck? Strap in. Cuts to food stamps, slashed Medicaid, goodbye to student aid, and good luck keeping your kid on health insurance. Millions will lose help they depend on so billionaires can pocket another yacht payment. The top 0.1% walks away with $300,000 in tax breaks. Meanwhile, folks earning under $17K trying to feed your kids while going to bed hungry? You lose money! This bill doesn’t lift anyone up, it steps on the people already down just to boost the ones sitting on piles of cash. It’s not reform. It’s garbage robbery in broad daylight! They’re feeding steak to the rich while telling the rest of us to be grateful for the trash. That ain’t beautiful, it’s ugly.

House rules are very clear that any income tax increase requires 3/5 support of the full house. If you want to increase income taxes, you have to get 3/5 of the house to support it. You all decided you do not want that rule to apply to this bill. The only reason why you would do so is because you know your bill does in fact increase income taxes.

But what happened is in the rules committee they don't want to have this vote tonight because they know they are going to lose. What's even sillier is they have this nonbinding resolution. Any benefits they might have seen from the tax bill were wiped out by tariffs and slashing healthcare.
