Yeah, we’ve got a store almost like that, made of containers, in the village near our summer cottage. The personnel are there just part of the time.

It's not only in Estonia, I've visited one in Denmark. I can name several countries where it wouldn't work, though. One quite near actually.

I live in Germany and we have such shops as well. I used one myself, it was exactly the same procedure: opening the door with the app on your phone, scanning everything and checking out yourself

Great! Now imagine you can only open that door with a QR-code which is connected to your digital ID. and on that digital ID you have points, which can drop below a certain level if you don’t act the way the State wants you to, so the door won’t open anymore. Just like China.

We have these in Lithuania for YEARS as well (different brand though), but they don't sell beer, so I literally never been into one of those :>

We have some shops like this in 🇳🇴 too. I have one nearby staffed from 0900 to 1700, but open for self service to midnight.

I'm still waiting for the next solution, where the payment part would be left out.

Congratulations! We also have those little shops in Sweden, mostly in those rural areas where people don't lock the door when they leave home. 🙂

Every Rimi has a back room with full time security staff monitoring the surveillance cameras, I’m told the losses in food and retail are staggering, with shrinkage rates so high many companies are unprofitable.

Looks like Estonia is lacking enrichment.

Don't you have Estonian girls who have faces representable enough to put on the pic on the shop so that you must use Latvians?

That place could never exist in the US. So many thieves here would steal everything!

Like arriving late to Helsinki airport, supermarket there sometimes haven´t had any personel and you just get and pay what you want (doors are wide open).

This is not something to be proud of. First of all, it relies on too much technology, when app or phone gets too old and no longer supported, you cannot even enter. Second- i imagine that there is no 30% price discount for doing all the work yourself, right?

Good to see, honesty and trust are important assets for a well functioning society.

50 billion cameras and biometric scanner at the entrance. There's literally nothing that says " trust" in here.

Most useless thing ever. Sniggers just going to break in without scanning their ass crack while law abiding citizens don't need cameras anyway ( cu they ain't gonna steal )

A high trust society. That’s becoming a rarity in Europe, alas.

I was visiting Estonia in August and saw this in a kiosk in the harbour. Like a lunch room in a regular workplace, you just take what you want, pay, and go. All based on trust.
