During the reign of Timur Shah Durrani, Peshawar became the winter capital of Afghanistan, while Kabul served as the summer capital. This makes Peshawar one of the official capitals of Afghanistan during the Durrani period. 3. Barakzai Period Under Dost Mohammad Khan and other Barakzai rulers, Peshawar remained under Afghan control. It was an important political, military, and economic center of eastern Afghanistan. 4. Loss of Peshawar Between 1818 and 1834, the Sikh Empire under Maharaja Ranjit Singh invaded Afghan territories and captured Peshawar by force. Later, the British took control of the region.
