"I think the genesis of most, not all of that, but the genesis of most of that is political, and I think it would hurt America," he told CBS News' Nikole Killion on Wednesday. "Having said that, we all want the war to end."

🇺🇦 Zelensky congratulates Ukrainians on Independence Day In his address, the president thanked the military and everyone who has kept the country standing for 1,643 days. According to him, Putin made one crucial miscalculation — he failed to take Ukrainians themselves and their determination to defend their country into account. “The Russians considered us their younger brother, but life has proven that we are strangers to each other,” Zelensky said. The president also spoke about strikes deep inside Russia, the destruction of Russia’s fleet and oil refineries, the need to produce more weapons and strengthen the army. He stressed separately that Ukraine would not give up Donbas in exchange for a quick end to the war. “We are not going to save the Kremlin half a million soldiers,” Zelensky said. He also called on Ukraine’s partners to increase pressure on Moscow and provide everything necessary to bring the war to an end. “Putin hopes that we are tired. We know that he is mortal. He never understood us. And now he never will.”
