Many times I’ve gone out with my colleagues for shore leave, and you’ll often hear them say, “I can’t spend that much; I have a project going on. I need to pay my kids' school fees. I need to send money home to my wife.” If they manage to buy something for themselves, it’s usually much cheaper than what they get for their wives and kids. I recently lost a colleague who, I believe, spent only two years at home out of the last ten; the remaining eight were spent at sea. Now his family will be the ones to enjoy the fruits of all that hustling. While it is thoughtful to take care of your family, it’s also vital to take care of yourself—the “main engine,” as I often refer to the man working for the money. so men, take care of yourselves. Travel, create fine memories; even with the people you’re providing for. Treat yourselves well. You, too, deserve to be taken care of.

I think the goal should be conscious efforts towards doing what really matters to you as an individual or just exploring yourself and what you’re passionate about. Taking care of yourself could also mean doing intentional things, that you would find pleasing to do.

No lies told, and this is why a good number of men die before their wives.

I am the type of person that whenever I want to enjoy something, I always want to enjoy it with my family. But I started doing something just recently, atleast once or twice every week, on my way back home from work, I will stop by the suya spot, buy suya, go to a local bar nearby, order a very chilled Heineken or Trophy, sit by myself alone and enjoy myself, when I've had enough, I go home. I'll still take care of the house but let me enjoy the money I work for.
