You’d almost start to believe telepathy is scientifically possible

This is both incredible and terrifying. We are rapidly approaching a reality where even our internal thoughts and mental images are no longer private. The bridge between neuroscience and digital surveillance is narrowing faster than we can regulate it. If we can reconstruct imagination today, what happens to the "freedom of thought" tomorrow? This is a massive leap for BCI technology. What are the long-term ethical boundaries for this kind of tech? @elonmusk 🧠

Sounds like another pseudo-breakthrough, I highly doubt it's true.

Something about the idea that what we "see" in our dreams is being actually, objectively "seen" in our brain, and not just vaguely interpreted or imagined in hindsight is fascinating. The notion that our brains are both producing and encountering those things, simultaneously, without being aware that it is doing both of those things, is wild.

For centuries, that abstract realm we called the “eye of the mind” or “imagination” has now been transformed into a concrete data package. Our brain is now just a processor, and our thoughts are hackable software. Both fascinating and terrifying.

Cant wait to get all the cool music im always making out of my head and into a device just by plugging my brain in. Then if I can tweak and finish it in FL studio and Audition... id be a happy snowman

Wild tech. Reading imagination from brain waves feels like sci-fi becoming real.

The question is are these just V1 topo maps or deeper in which would be more impressive

Not imagination, visual input. Important difference.

Some people think by your wording, Massimo, that these were taken from someone imagining or remembering... but wow! This is taken from what they were directly watching. That's crazy cool

Just to break down how crazy this is! The MRI reads blood flow and oxygen levels in the brain (not even brain waves) and the patterns in this data is similar enough for similar shapes, items and colours that an AI is able to be trained on said data and used to reconstruct the image. Just imagine what EEG could do! if we directly read the brain waves

Just a wild guess, but the interference we see in some images (the rapid succession of images) is the brain thinking and scanning memory for similar images or connected thoughts (in an abstract way).

10 years ago I saw exact videos about AI... we are cooked. In 5 years we ll have ads and propaganda implanted in our heads

Things are going to get incredibly weird when we're able to do this well.

I used to worry about having an EEG because I thought it’d show all my thoughts about anime (I was in middle school) I guess my fears weren’t entirely unfounded

Friendly reminder that your brain makes up a story and nobody's story is the same. We all receive the same input but we don't generate the same story. :)

So if they can get better resolution....what would happen if they did this while the person is sleeping? Would we be able to get visuals of people's dreams?
