Merrill Kelly confirms that the D-backs thought that Cubs third base coach Quintin Berry was relaying signs every time he threw a changeup to lefties. "Stealing signs is as old as baseball. I think it's a little bulls--- when it comes from a coach."

“Hey guys, I can tell what pitch the pitcher is throwing, but I’m not going to tell you because the other team might get mad”.

It’s one of those things to where “it’s Bush league” if someone else does it but I promise you wouldn’t say shit to your coaches if they were doing it. Like come on now.. hide it better 🤷🏼‍♂️

If you're tipping pitches, that is on you. Not the same as what the Astros did.

If a base coach can see your signs, everyone can.

Shouldn't you be hiding ball better

He wasn’t stealing signs dumbass, you have a “tell” when you throw a changeup, maybe you should fix that and stop being a shitty pitcher.

Then do a better job at not tipping your pitches.

In my opinion, coaches and managers are there to help their players succeed. If a coach noticed something and failed to notify his players he would be finding a job somewhere else.

Every year something like this pops up that reminds everyone how bitch made baseball players are. All the “unwritten rules.” You’re in a competition cupcake stfu

That’s absolutely a coaches job. Stop using signs that others can figure out

The best 2 lefties on the Cubs, including one of the best hitters in MLB, went 0 for 8 🤔

He’s just pissed at himself for tipping pitches. Coaches absolutely pick up on that and relay the information.

I am sure no one on the Arizona Diamondbacks has ever once relayed a stolen signal. And if they did I wonder if Kelly immediately called them out for doing it.

Yeah I’m sure 5.35 ERA, 1.51 WHIP Merrill Kelly only lost the game bc the Cubs were stealing signs

Maybe don't telegraph your pitches? Maybe mix up your signals?

It’s more than a little bullshit when a pitcher refuses accountability and hides behind risible pretextual excuses. Berry did nothing wrong and Kelly should look in mirror and fix pitch tipping. Supposedly inviolate unwritten rules of baseball drive me crazy!

Only way this could be happening, would be if the coach is saying something a certain way before the pitch. And honestly, that’s kinda fair game too. If a team is picking up on someone tipping pitches, that’s on the pitcher to then adjust.

Lol in an era where THERE ARE NO SIGNS, idiot. Every hitter knew evey single time Randy Johnson was going to throw his slider. Everyone knew what Mariano was throwing. Bro has a 5.35 ERA, so everyone has been stealing every "sign" in every start.

It’s not “stealing signs” there are no signs anymore. Kelly was tipping his pitches. That’s not the same thing. Stop tipping your changeup no more problem. Don’t blame the other team for your failures.
