Something I learned when I was at Auburn is that a coach can only take a team so far. At the end of the day, leadership has to come from the players in the locker room working hard every day and holding their teammates ACCOUNTABLE. Kyle Shanahan pretty much confirmed why the 49ers draft process is flawed and broken. On the Rich Eisen Show, he explained that he only has time to watch highlight packages of draft prospects for two months before the draft. That’s not abnormal for a head coach. Their job is to coach the team and the grind is non-stop from late July through January and February. But when Shanahan has as much personnel say as he does, and he’s the one making the picks, that’s when it becomes a problem because the 49ers aren’t leaning on the GM and scouting department who are scouting these prospects year-round. This is a big reason why the 49ers have missed so often in the draft and from 2020-23, the Niners drafted 27 players total, but only four got multi-year second contracts with the team. #49ers

To see four guys get drafted, that would be really big time for them of course. "But big time for our university." Kentucky holds the record for most picks in a single NBA Draft with six Wildcats taken in both the 2012 and 2015 drafts. Duke's had five players taken in a draft twice. North Carolina had five players taken in the 10-round 1980 draft. And now Kelvin Sampson's UH program will see Kingston Flemings and Chris Cenac Jr. taken in the first round on Tuesday with Emanuel Sharp and Milos Uzan in line to be second round selections on Wednesday. That'd be a UH four. Shead on the growing Sampson Houston NBA fraternity: "It's really a brotherhood. I still talk to those guys every week."

I talked to first-year Saguaro head coach Butch Goncharoff yesterday about what the last few weeks have been like. Goncharoff said it's been a whirlwind trying to get things switched around, but he's really proud of the kids who stuck around and how they're competing. “Process over outcomes” is something he stressed is important right now. “Any coach in the country only wants one thing, and that’s effort,” Goncharoff said. “It’s cool to hear people like (Jason) Mohns come up and go, ‘Man, that was impressive.’ It’s a special place, and he built it, I mean, he's a heck of a ball coach. “We’ll bring (Saguaro) back, guarantee it.” ArizonaVarsity.com 🔥PREPS🔥
