The place this becomes most challenging to actually do in practice is when people have kids

@notcapnamerica This is so true and why it doesn’t make sense when men & women neglect their friendships when they get into relationships. You can have a partner but also have healthy friendships & community outside of your relationship.

@notcapnamerica She’s preaching a word: “That freed me up to let him be him and let me be me.” That part!!!

Jada Pinkett Smith said the same thing & y’all crucified her, 🤦🏾♀️

I’ve always thought like this. I find it shocking that so many women don’t think like this until it’s too late. But also, it helps me understand why the divorce rate is so high with WOMEN being the main ones to file.

The crazy thing is my parents told me that for years I never had to figure it out cuz it was already explained to me

I love this. I’m continuing to learn that I can love my partner, but we need our own paths. We’ll always be there, but being my own individual matters.

Makes me think of Kurt Vonnegut writing that: When a couple has an argument nowadays they may think it's about money or power or sex or how to raise the kids or whatever. What they're really saying to each other, though without realizing it, is this: "You are not enough people!

But this gonna go right over yall immature ass heads

I think the problem has been the messaging around marriage. "It's the two of us, and only us. Married people shouldn't keep unmarried friends." It's also hard sometimes to go from spending so much time together while dating, to finding "yourself" after that honeymoon stage.
