COACHING HARD A lot of comments on recent videos asked what it means to coach players hard. I think the initial reaction to that we think of a Coach screaming and yelling. I don’t really consider that ‘Coaching Hard’. Coaching hard to me means you are fully invested in the player, want them to succeed, have had conversations with them about it, laid out the standards and expectations for them, then YOU HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE TO THAT. The coaching hard part takes different shapes and forms, it’s not always yelling… but the accountability and care has to be strict, that’s what makes it seem hard to the player

They take the coaching, they take the hard coaching, they take the constant coaching. We tell them we're going to coach the hell out of them Monday-Saturday, then Sunday is their day to go play and let it loose and they have. We have a lot of guys that have taken advantage of opportunities, when you do that you earn more opportunities. We got great leadership at all 3 levels of the defense, I'm proud the way their play. Sometimes we give up the first drive of the game, then we go 3 & out for 6 more series, so they learn quickly and adjust."

Players will leave their HS, AAU, and College teams for a million different reasons. That is the basketball landscape today. But not holding them accountable or coaching them hard isn’t going to stop them from leaving.
