Microplastics pollute every inshore plankton sample I collect. There are many new, modern wool fabrics with similar benefits to manmade materials. As your old plastic clothing wears out why not make a New Year's resolution to replace it with natural fibres. ZEISS Microscopy

@zeiss_micro Go for used clothes. They’re already made so we need to use them out instead of making more (of ANY fabric)

@zeiss_micro I was the first to seriously address this over 30 years ago in a series of lawsuits. Unfortunately, microplastic is a magnet for PCBs and has replaced plankton as the beginning of the ocean's food chain, we eat it, and it's in our unborn children. All other issues are moot.

@Safernoc934 @zeiss_micro Duckworth and Wooly are 2 American companies to start changing your wardrobe from plastic to wool. Wool requires less washings, it insulates you when wet or dry and can be completely recycled.

@zeiss_micro Who wears plastic? No sane man will do so. The problem is that clothing from natural fibres (cotton, wool) gets 'improved' by the manufacturers with stretchy plastics. In Holland is has become difficult to find 100% pure socks, for example. They call the plastic stuffed ones >>

@zeiss_micro Wool is not an ethical solution.

@zeiss_micro most of it is actually coming from car tires #gocarfree

@xriskology @zeiss_micro Tires and textiles are two of the largest sources of microplastics. has an informative article and infograph:

@zeiss_micro Plastic is destroying the world 🌎

@zeiss_micro Online orders for wool, organic cotton or hemp. I'm a big fan of the wool singlets and t-shirts. Company is based in Sydney.

@zeiss_micro It would be great if hemp clothes were more readily available.
