Microsoft has released a new open source AI model Phi-4-mini is surprisingly powerful for its size (3.8B!) You can use it for free locally on your Windows, MacOS or Linux laptop. Links and tutorial below

1. LM Studio Go to the LM Studio website and download the version for your OS. Free for personal use and no data collection!

2. Beta Channel - At the bottom select “Power User” - Then in the developer tab, click on “LM Runtimes” - Change from “Stable” to “Beta”

3. Download Phi-4-Mini Type Phi-4-Mini in the model search tab. I recommend the version published by bartowski and “Q4_0”, which will be suitable in most cases.

4. Load the model Start a new conversation and select the template from the top bar. Load it by clicking on the button, and you're ready to start chatting! 100% free and offline
