Something was bothering me about the video and I took a 2nd look. The reporter says it occupies 493 hectares. That is only 1.9 square miles. Abt 1,200 acres Rule of thumb is 1mw(nameplate) of solar takes 5 acres. 3,500mw (3.5gw) would take 17,500 acres or 27 square miles. 13-20,000hectare Lots of extra space between panels so guessing 50-75 square miles. So is it really 3.5gw(np)or is it really 493 hectares? Someone is not being truthful

I personally have probably done more than anyone else to make large scale solar possible in the US. Prior to 1988 3rd party ownership of utility scale power was prohibited under federal law, though some states permitted it. In 1980-84, as Manager Facility Operations for Alcon in Humacao PR, I tried to build a CHP plant financed and operated by O'Brien Energy. Local util said it was illegal, we lost the 1st round, won on 2nd round. That is why you have 3rd parties building solar. I feel bad about it. I'm sorry.
