Mike Tomlin says he loves competing against coaches who blame players for being unable to learn “Management. That’s what the hell we’re paid to do.” “We try to bring out the best in the collective. In an effort to do so… We better manage the collective… And the individuals within the collective.” “I love to hear coaches resist the responsibility of coaching… Because they’re easy to beat.” “They talk negatively about a dude… Saying things like ‘He can’t learn.’” “If everybody could learn… We’d need fewer coaches.” “Somebody’s talking about… How poor somebody’s hand usage is. Well, that’s coaching.” “I don’t run away from coaching. I run to coaching. I love it.” “When you’re a coach… Talking about somebody can’t learn… You’re seeking comfort… Because your teaching is struggling.”

Mike Tomlin on not seeking comfort in life and coaching. “I live a life where I don’t seek comfort and I don’t make excuses…some people talk, some people watch, some people do. I’m glad I’m a doer.” If comfort is the goal, stagnation will be the cost. Each excuse is a small withdrawal from the person you're capable of becoming. 📹: The Pivot Podcast

I love James Harrison He’s my brother, but I disagree with the way he’s spoken about Mike Tomlin. After Mike T stepped away from coaching James said he wasn’t a Hall of Famer because he has no coaching tree. First off Mike T is a Hall of Famer, but there’s validity to James’ statement on his coaching tree. He’s chosen older more established Coordinators. None of which have gone on to head coaching positions. He had so much to pass down. Wish there were more branches to his tree. People were concern about David Bailey's run defense, I wasn't concerned at all about because I know who's coaching him. Karl Dunabr is one of the best teachers when it comes to run defense fundamentals. Bailey has excelled against the run early in camp and here's an example of him using his hands and a violent disengage to get in on the tackle. #Jets #NFL #DavidBailey

Mike Shanahan shares the truth about coaching that nobody talks about. "If you're in coaching, the journey is never easy, but you've got to fight through it. You're going to have the highest highs and the lowest lows." "Tough times don't last, tough people do." That's the reality - there will be ups and downs. To accomplish anything, you need resilience and grit to get there. The journey isn't supposed to be easy - it's supposed to be worth it.

Incredible take from Charles Barkley on Tom Izzo: "The media, who don't know anything about sports, say 'Why is he yelling his players?' That's called coaching... if parents & friends get mad because you're getting yelled at, get better parents & better friends."

I used to think coaching was for bad founders. I was wrong. Pylon grew 5.35x last year and we're on track to 4x again this year. But as the company started to hyperscale, we could no longer solve every problem from first principles. That's when we started working with a coach from Titan. He’s no bullshit, has done this before, and helps us move way faster. Now we have ~1,500 customers with 170% net retention and we're just getting started. AJ Goldstein and Dave McGibbon came by our office to capture Pylon's story and the impact coaching has had on the company. If you're a founder curious about coaching, here's my take 👇️

Texas A&M OL Coach Adam Cushing - Coaching Cues - Simplify, Simplify, Simplify. - 3 Word Bursts - Create Teachers "I believe for everything you want to coach, you have to have a coaching cue. You can't have something that you're coaching that you can't boil down to a three word burst. You have to be able to boil it down or else it's going to be too complicated for the players to execute in the moment." LFG Foundation
