Varane must’ve been a horrible CB to come up against. Guy was quicker than all your wingers, taller than all your strikers & to top it off he was deceptively strong despite his languid build. Imagine his bony legs & elbows crashing into you after a challenge.😮‍💨

11 years ago today, 19-year-old Héctor Bellerín broke into the Arsenal 11 after a freak injury to defender Mathieu Debuchy, as Arsenal beat Stoke City 3-0. Debuchy dislocated his right shoulder in a challenge from Marko Arnautovic and collided with the advertising boards behind the goal. The Arssnal players were forced to play on for the next few minutes in a silent Emirates Stadium while their teammate received serious medical attention behind the gold. Bellerín went on to play in 16 of the remaining 18 PL games & was named in the PFA Team of the Year the following season. Debuchy had only joined in the summer but this injury ultimately cost him his spot in the Arsenal team and other injuries would cost him his spot in the France national team.

I was put on antidepressants at just 7 years old — long before I understood what they even were. I grew up on these drugs. After college, I tried to come off following the standard guidelines and still ended up with a severe neurological injury. Bedridden and disabled. People need to know antidepressants can cause this kind of life-altering harm and it’s not on the labels. Doctors aren’t taught about it. Most have never heard of protracted withdrawal injury. This is a hidden epidemic. The public deserves the truth. #pssd #ssriwithdrawal #antidepressants

Although injury and illness struck, yesterday I managed to climb the highest mountain in the UK This week, I planned on attempting the national 3 peaks challenge. Unfortunately during the decent of Ben Nevis, I popped something in my ankle and my knee which i injured years ago, started to fail. Alongside not being in a good mental state, I was advised to not go ahead with the other 2, with it just being virtually impossible with timing and for safety. Although I am gutted that I couldn’t do the peaks, It’s unbelievable to say that I have successfully climbed the highest mountain in the UK on my first ever attempt of climbing a mountain. With getting to the summit in under 5 hours. That alone, would never have been possible just a few months ago. Failure is such a strong word but equally not every challenge was made to be completed on the first attempt. A huge thank you to the lads who joined me for sticking alongside me and putting my safety first. Once recovered, we attempt it again after plenty of training ❤️

Family first, football second 🧡 On Thursday, Robin van Persie’s 19-year-old son Shaqueel suffered a serious knee injury after coming on for Feyenoord in the Europa League. It happened just days after scoring his first senior goal 😔 What stood out to me is how Robin (now Feyenoord manager) went onto the pitch to kneel beside his son as he was stretchered off 🥹 In football, injuries can make it feel like the world around you is crumbling… Your body stops, but your mind races; one moment things are moving forward, the next you’re dealing with questions you didn’t expect to face. Robin knows that feeling all too well. Lowering the stretcher may seem like a small thing, but in that moment it would have meant the world to his son - a father choosing presence over everything else. Wishing you a swift recovery, Shaqueel 💫 (🎥: risingstarXI)
