For the longest time 30+ family and friends chipped in to a private company and we could always fly that way. I never really flew commercial too much, only a handful of times. I never liked it. I hate the crowds, I hate waiting for my bags. Some people can be always unruly. The worst for me is when I had to sit by someone who would always give the attendant a hard time, treating them like a personal assistant, barking orders at them and admonishing them for what they consider substandard service. This woman sitting across the aisle from me thought she was at an all inclusive buffet. She would say “excuse me miss” as a way of getting their attention and she always used a fake sugary sweet voice and was acting polite but I could tell it wasn’t authentic, it was a way to demean the workers. She made the poor attendant kept going back and forth and getting her refills even though she was serving somebody else. She would repeatedly ask for snacks and seconds when the meal was served. I have no idea why they complied but they did. Most of us were just sitting there watching and waiting for the attendant to snap, but she was professional the whole time. This was at a time where most people weren’t going to embarrass themselves making a scene because the people who treat them like this are used to the attention, it’s almost as if they are picking a fight intentionally. The rest of the flight was uneventful. This was a long flight to Asia for me, I think the attendant knew if she angered the woman, she would then become even more difficult so she just took it. I would have cut her off a long time before she started taking advantage.

At the wrap party for Phantom, the director gave words of encouragement to Janeeyeh. —— Director: Let me interrupt for a moment, because I think all of us really should give more encouragement to ZhiYu and ZhiYu’s older sister as well, because they’ve been through a lot. She came from Thailand to Taiwan for filming, and even though she is of mixed Thai-Taiwanese descent, this is one of the few times she has truly “grounded” herself to work here in Taiwan, so she’s been carrying a great deal of mental pressure. She also worked incredibly hard to nail every single state of her character. Honestly, I hold her in high regard because her effort, every movement, and every part of her performance truly moved me. At those most “expensive” moments (the crucial, high-stakes shots), she would always bring her expression to the perfect place. That's why we were both so amazed; we both felt so warmed by her. Howard Hawks on working with Marilyn Monroe: "Marilyn Monroe was the most frightened little girl who had no confidence in her ability. She was afraid to come on the screen. Very strange girl. And yet she had this strange effect when she was photographed. Nobody dated her, nobody took her out, nobody paid any attention to her. She’d sit on the set with practically nothing on, and a pretty extra girl would walk by and everybody’d whistle. But she got out in front of the camera, and the camera liked her, and all of a sudden she was a great sex symbol. Fortunately, I had her in a couple of the first pictures that she did 'Monkey Business' (1952) and 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' (1953), when she wasn’t worried. And also I had Jane Russell’s help in making 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes'. We had a lot of fun doing the picture, but there were a lot of times when I was ready to give up the ghost. Ren Susu, to me, is like a candle in a dark room. She was never afraid of giving people warmth, even if every act of kindness meant another piece of herself melted away. She spent so much of her life becoming light for others that she never noticed she was slowly disappearing. By the time everyone thank her for her glow, there was barely anything left of her. Love, happiness, and peace all feel temporary to her, as though they were never meant to belong in her life for long. So instead of waiting for fate to take them away, she lets go first. It isn’t because she doesn’t love deeply. It’s because she believes the people she loves would be safer without her. She is brave. She has never hesitated to do what she believes is right, even when it demands impossible sacrifices. Like Qingyi, she has an incredibly strong sense of justice, and she spends much of her life living for other people too. The difference is that Qingyi learned to give because he believed love had to be earned, while Susu learned to sacrifice because she believed her own happiness always came at someone else’s expense. She doesn’t put herself last because she is naturally selfless. She does it because she no longer believes she should come first. When she learns that Qingyi’s tendons were severed by the Huo family. She quietly asks herself, “What if, back then, I had pretended not to know you?” I think that single line tells us everything about how her mind works. There are endless what ifs inside her head. Little by little, those questions begin to erase the person she used to be because she genuinely believes that every tragedy suffered by the people she loves somehow starts with her. When something terrible happens, most of us instinctively ask, “Who did this?” Susu asks something entirely different, “What if I hadn’t done this?” She doesn’t look outward for someone to blame. She turns inward first. Every accident becomes her responsibility, every loss becomes evidence that she should have made a different choice, and every sacrifice someone makes for her becomes another reason to believe she only brings misfortune into other people’s lives. That’s why she keeps pushing Qingyi away. It was never because she didn’t love him. She loved him too much. She simply believed that loving her meant suffering because of her. In her eyes, she is a burden. A jinx. Someone whose existence inevitably invites tragedy. She takes responsibility for things that were never hers to carry and wears them as though they are debts she will spend the rest of her life repaying. One of her defining traits is that she constantly chooses to be misunderstood. She would rather let people resent her than watch them get hurt because of her. If becoming the villain in someone else’s story means they get to live, she will accept that role without ever trying to explain herself. To her, being hated has always felt more bearable than watching someone she loves pay the price for staying by her side. I think a lot of that can be traced back to her childhood. When she enters the orphanage, survival becomes the only thing that matters. It teaches her a lesson that feelings are a luxury, but survival comes first. In a place where every day is about making it through tomorrow, there is very little room for vulnerability. You learn to suppress your own needs because everyone around you is already struggling to survive. It isn’t difficult to imagine how someone raised in that environment would grow into an adult who constantly chooses everyone else before herself. That’s exactly who Susu becomes. Watching my mom go from social butterfly to battling Alzheimer’s has been heartbreaking these last few years. Not just for me, but for my wife and my entire family. Having a caretaker in the house seven days a week, for 10 hours a day, is a lot. Your house isn't really your house. And don't get me started on the financial burden. So much credit goes to Jade for being the rock she is, to Huey and Veda being the grandkids my mom was hellbent on being present for, and my mom — for battling depression, grief, and this new reality she never asked for. But now and then, a moment happens that shows the true good in people, and this crazy ass world we live in. This is Abigail. She was my grandma and mom’s caretaker in Virginia. She sat front row at my grandma’s funeral consoling my mom and dealing with her own grief. Abigail is family. We still keep in contact. I hope we always will. Last week, she surprised my mom by coming to visit. Abigail did this because she loves my mom, and one of the last things my grandma ever said to her was, “Please take care of my little girl when I'm gone.” Abigail did that and so much more. To all the great caretakers out there, thank you. Meeting angels on Earth is a blessing. To the healthcare industry, I wish I could say the same.

director chen chang shares the reasons why he wanted to work with zhao lusi for the second time 🩵 "for love's ambition, it really felt a two-way street effort between lusi and I I told her about this script and she went back to read it. afterwards, she really liked it so she told me that she wanted to do it together with me! when I first met lusi, she was only a 19/20 years old girl. she was very adorable and she basically portrayed a role that was natural to herself (gu shengnan in dating in the kitchen) but for this time round, there were two main reasons why I wanted to work with her firstly, her matured acting skills. of course, when it comes to an actor, their acting skills will always have to be the most important thing. to be recognised, she would want to portray many different roles. this role (xu yan) would give her that space to become a very different zhao lusi secondly, her passion. being passionate wouldn't necessarily mean that you have great acting skills . sometimes, passion will only give you the love for acting but you'll still need to keep refining your acting skills. your acting skills might not improve just because you have the passion too but when there is love in your eyes, and when you have love for dramas, your eyes won't lie. that is what differentiates between actors as for lusi, I really can tell her love for dramas. so why wouldn't you not want to collaborate with such an actor? one who calls you at 3 AM, "is my outfit for tomorrow's filming ok?"
