Here is my thing with this show and - not coincidentally - Brian de Palma's Bonfire of the Vanities. You don't have to go over the top adapting Tom Wolfe's books, because they are already over the top, in story, character and dialog. Just do it straight with a shot of wry, and the story will take care of the rest.

I have not seen this mini-series, and I did not have much respect for Jeff Danials (opposed to his politics!) before he played one of the most impressive villains I’ve seen in the “Godless” mini-series. This one may be over the top, but I want to see it anyway because of that past role. Looks as if he even puffed up for this character.
