As well as his wife, Rose, who was also an economist he worked closely with throughout their marriage.

If your starting goal is equality, or in today's parlance, equity, you'll end up with everyone being equal all right. Equally poor. You have to subsidize mediocrity and that disenchants high performers who are naturally squashed under the weight of the mediocre.

We need more Sowell and Friedman taught in schools. The more I give my university students Sowell and Friedman to read, the more their minds open.
