@jk_rowling has indicated that the Dursleys' behavior stemmed from their own bigotry, bitterness, and envy, not from a magical force. my own 2 cents Petunia also displayed Jelousy toward magic before Harry was even born when shee was a teen and Lilly was freinds with Snape

Why humanize the Dursleys? 🤣

McGonagall says in the first scene of sorcerer's stone that they "are the worst kind of muggles imaginable"

Invalid point because the Dursleys are muggles and Horcruxes seem to be able to alter the emotional state of wizards (including Harry's, in the movies, he acts out too whilst wearing the locket), if kept near for too long. Petunia was always envious of Lily's magic too.

No. McGonagall scoped them before they handed him off to them stating they're the "worst kind of people." Maybe he made them worse... but they already sucked. (a quote from the movies anyway)

No. McGonagall said they were awful people as she watched them before Harry arrived.

This only makes sense to people that didn’t read the book.

No, Ginny didn't turn evil at all. She was puppeteered. No, Ron didn't turn evil either. He was nervous and irritable when the Horcrux acted up. Just like Harry many times across the books. No, the Dursleys's motivations are clear with no need for magical explanations. TURNED*

even JK Rowling didn’t realize that

This is a good theory, however, it is pretty well established in chapter one that they were shitty people before Harry came to live with them, and further cemented in the second act of deathly hallows that they where shitty becuase petunia was jealous of her sister. We don't need fan theorys for why they are shitty people, the books directly tell us why.

When the Dursleys' had to leave Harry for their own safety, the words of Dudley in the book made me realize how psychotic his parents were. He shook Harry's hand and told him that he did not think of him as a waste of space which had been implanted in him since they were kids.

No, it doesn't make sense. If that were true, everyone at school would be dicks and cunts

They were horrible people before Harry was born. If we pay attention on Snape's memory, when he first met Lilly, Petuny was a bully with both of them just because she was jelous about Lilly being a witch. When she founds Vernon, she married him because he hates "abnormalities"

As much as I want to agree with this point, it doesn't really line up that well. All the Horcruxes were objects except for Harry. Objects with an evil part of that soul have no counter balance the same way as Harry's own soul countering Voldemort's little piece. Balance is balance in the end. Think about the couple instances when V saw through Harry's eyes and how he could not completely take control over Harry. Otherwise Harry would have been "evil" the entire time himself from the moment of the scar to Hogwarts.

No, you're forgetting, though in the first book, they describe his aunt and uncle and how terrible they are, and that's before Harry even gets to their house. On top of that, if you think about it, everyone affected by a horcrux also Can Do Magic.

No. Before Harry was delivered to the Dursleys, Minerva already told Albus that the Dursleys were horrible people.

Lol read the first first few chapters of book one. There you have your answer. Acting like you didn't have resources to stop you from getting to that ridiculous conclusion.

By purely movie continuity that works but the first chapter of book one is all about how Vernon and Petunia are already and have long since been completely intolerable bigots despising anything that didn't fit within their exact and narrow definition of "normal".

But the Dursley's were nasty regarding the Potter's well before Harry was left on their doorstep.

That would mean behavior of Ron and Hermione would also get influenced cz harry was with them all the time , which it clearly didn't, so dursleys were just assholes

Harry wasn't a horcrux. Horcruxes are intentionally split after being cracked by murder, with some weird rituals to put it inside something. The piece of Voldemort's soul in Harry was a (super)natural effect from his soul being so diminished it couldn't crack without breaking.

I mean by that logic anyone in the Gryffindor house would turn evil also since Harry stays there's for like 6 years.

They "hated" the Potter's 'cause of the magic, even before Harry's birth. So... No, that's not the reason 😊👍🏼 They are just envious muggles

Um, no, the Dursleys were nasty before even taking in Harry. Really, if you think about it, because of Lily's sacrifice, it contained and bound the negative effects of Voldemort's soul trapped in Harry.

If you read the books (or see the scene cut from the last movie) you realize that Dudley has actually matured and come around to not hating Harry anymore. He's actually grateful that Harry saved him from the dementors, once he recovers enough to realize what happened.
