12. How tsunami occurs... Tsunamis usually occur when there is sudden movement along faults in the Earth's lithospheric plates, often caused by undersea earthquakes. These plates, which make up the Earth's outer shell, move at their boundaries and collide with each other. When the stress builds up and is released along a subduction zone - where one lithospheric plate is forced beneath another - this displacement causes a large volume of water to be suddenly pushed upward, creating tsunami waves. These waves travel at high speed out to sea, and as they reach low-lying coastal areas, their height increases and can cause devastating flooding and destruction.

18. Yasuo Takamatsu, from Onagawa, Japan, has been searching for his wife, Yoko, for 10 years since she went missing in the 2011 tsunami. Yoko was at work at a bank when the disaster struck, k*lling thousands of people, including him, and leaving many more missing. After searching on land for two and a half years without success, Yasuo learned to scuba dive in 2013 to continue his search at sea. At 67, he has now made more than 600 dives, driven by his deep love and the hope that he will find her remains and give her a proper farewell.
