Minimizing cost has an aesthetic quality. Like removing needless words from an essay or cutting code from a fat class. You can certainly cut too much — whether it be costs, prose, or code — but lean and simple is a joy to achieve.

I feel the same way when I code, I call it "polishing rocks" cuz when you build lets say a multi step sign up form, it can work, but ANY annoying details will bug me, so you rebuild it....again...and again... until you go thru the flow and it feels as smooth as your hand on silk

Exactly. And most of business, especially big companies, are all obsessed with growth. More employees, more expenses, more code, more tools, more meetings, more everything. Look how big we are! They think the more resources they throw at something, the better result they'll get.

Working this week on something similar: simplifying a crucial class in the code base. It’s rewarding when you can improve something that is being heavily used.
