Protesters clashed with law enforcement on Wednesday night after an ICE officer shot a man during an arrest in Minneapolis. Video shows fireworks exploding and tear gas being deployed toward protesters. An ICE officer shot a man in the leg after allegedly being attacked by three men with a snow shovel and a broom handle during an arrest operation, according to the Department of Homeland Security. All three men, who DHS says were from Venezuela and were in the U.S. illegally, were arrested and taken into ICE custody. Both the officer and the man shot were taken to the hospital. The shooting came exactly one week after ICE officer Jonathan Ross fatally shot 37-year-old Renee Good in south Minneapolis.

Today, DHS law enforcement was conducting a targeted operation in Minneapolis against an illegal alien wanted for violent assault. During the operation, an individual approached U.S. Border Patrol officers with a 9mm semi-automatic handgun. The officers attempted to disarm the suspect but the armed suspect violently resisted. Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots. This violence is directly fueled by hateful rhetoric from Minnesota's sanctuary politicians. It must end now.

🚨 ICE AGENT AMBUSHED IN MINNEAPOLIS — FEDERAL OFFICER FIRES IN SELF-DEFENSE According to multiple news outlets and the Department of Homeland Security, a federal law enforcement officer was attacked during an immigration enforcement action in North Minneapolis late Wednesday. The officer was reportedly assaulted with a shovel and broom handle by multiple individuals as he attempted to make an arrest, prompting him to fire a defensive shot that struck a suspect in the leg. Here’s what’s been reported: • ICE and federal agents were carrying out a targeted traffic stop on a Venezuelan national when he fled and crashed his vehicle. • After the subject exited the vehicle, he allegedly struggled with the officer, and two others emerged from a nearby apartment and attacked the officer with weapons including a shovel. • Fearing for his life, the ICE agent fired a defensive round, hitting the original suspect in the leg. • Both the injured suspect and the officer were transported to the hospital, and all three alleged attackers were taken into custody. This incident follows days of intense conflict in Minneapolis — including national controversy over an ICE agent’s fatal shooting of a separate individual earlier in the week — and has heightened tensions on the ground as protests continue.

Video shows another angle of the moment federal agents shot and killed 37-year-old Alex Jeffrey Pretti in south Minneapolis at about 9 a.m. local time on Saturday. DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement that agents fired “defensive shots” after “an individual approached U.S. Border Patrol officers with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun.” Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said the man had a permit to carry and videos of the incident do not show Pretti approaching officers with a weapon in his hands. The shooting comes after massive protests in the city following the increased presence of ICE agents, and the killing of Renee Good by an ICE agent on January 7. Protests swelled in the city on Saturday following this shooting.
