The direction of this film is on point. That scene is just captivating. Fun fact: a lot of people back when it came out thought the plot was confusing, but it’s super simple watching it now lol.

Why tf does he make that noise when a rat walks up?

Still the best Mission: Impossible film. Nothing since has its atmosphere of espionage and innocent-in-peril.

When you’re really wrapped up in watching that movie, that particular scene is absolutely nerve-wracking. It’s also quite unrealistic as, despite the fact that Tom Cruise is a somewhat miniature human, Jean Reno wasn’t holding a fully grown human’s body weight in that position via a rope & pulley system for that long. But that doesn’t stop it from being an entertaining movie and the 3rd best Mission Impossible movie (behind 2 & 3).
