What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail? 🛝 This video of sisters Emmy and Lyla, is more than a lovely moment on the playground. It’s also a perfect analogy for the type of environment we want to create for young children: supportive, loving, and conducive to (healthy) risk taking. Risk taking might not be the first thing you think of encouraging in your toddler. But almost all significant learning requires it. Whether it’s taking one’s first steps, trying a new food, finding the courage to approach a potential friend, or trying out the playground slide, young children are challenged by healthy risk daily. (Obviously, this is to be differentiated from unhealthy risk, which might put your child in danger.) How do we nurture healthy risk taking? Three-year-old Lyla puts on a master class in this short video, providing her sister with assurances that she is safe, protected, and bound to succeed. What a gift. These little risk takers were shared to IG by havensisters.
