Beshear said August 3 may be the cutoff after which he could no longer call a special election, but suggested some pushing the issue mistakenly believe a Democrat could win the seat. He also noted that McConnell’s absence has prevented him from voting for the SAVE Act and Trump’s war on Iran, adding: “Not having Mitch McConnell show up isn’t necessarily a bad thing because he certainly doesn’t show up to help the American people.”
