It’s called a chicken tractor. Been around for decades. This is a big one.

This type of agricultural innovation is so welcome. Sustainability. Happier chickens. Healthier people. The land is taken care of. More of this, please.

This is brilliant. Less ammonia build up, fresh food, organic, rotation increases soil quality(chicken poor is good fertiliser). If they lay, their yolk should be bright Orange ❤️

What about the hawks, owls, coyotes and other predators? They will eat fresh chickens daily?

Looks like brilliance! I’m sure there are some issues, but it’s way better than the alternative! Something like this for the egg layers would be great.

Attach it to the farm water arms in rotation to prep and fertilize the fields. ✌️

Probably not allowed in Europe - chicken stables are not permitted to move, otherwise they would be considered a vehicle, but a moving stable is not a valid vehicle. If it is a vehicle, it must be registered with a licence plate. I'm sure there will be endless fun with the authorities about this great idea. 😂

Only problems with that are predators, climate, topography and space ... four biggies. 1 - coyotes, hawks, eagles, felines would have a field day (pardon the pun). 2 - too hot for that here in the Southeast especially. 3 - land has to be very flat. 4 - would require 10 acres per chicken house vs three chicken houses per three acres.

We call those chicken tractors. They've been around forever, only not quite so large.

I would eat chicken often if they were all farmed like this. Because chickens will eat many things and consume whatever is around them.

That’s called a chicken tractor. Joel Salatin of @Polyface_Farm has been doing that for decades, and that’s pretty much the way modern homesteaders (like me) do it, though not usually motorized.

I'd think about automating it by making the tent in the shape of a circle segment, then having the segment move in a circle around a fixed point. A single electric motor, high torque, low speed, on the outer side could be timed to move at regular intervals. You could even add different open air segments for sowing and harvesting and have an enormous farming clock. I guess it would have to be massive though. Am I making sense or am I being a retard?
