Oof. I see a cheap sword I bought years ago…

As someone who's forging and studying history as a profession, I'd like to clarify: The original "Damascus" was a form of crucible steel. The very thing that made it special was that it was a solid, homogeneous steel in a world where steel was normally purified through folding.

"purely cosmetic" can't believe we've had microtransactions way before microtransactions 😭

Something ironic about "Damascus-style" being used to improve poor-quality steel but now its used to make poor-quality steel more expensive.

Grain activity makes people ooh and aah. Just don't tell them how the sausage is made, or else the mysticism is either gone or amplified, and you could bore them. My friend is a blacksmith, and he never shuts up about "pre-industrial steels" once they're brought up

If it ain’t got carbon nanotubes it ain’t Damascus.

love all your stuff! 😊 always look forward to your posts 😊

Didn't a group recreate actual Damascus steel not too long ago?

Oooh I need to look into it!

“the recipe was lost” its fucking high carbon and low carbon steel forged together, thats it. its not a “fake” thing now. its folding high and low carbon steel together via forge welding.
