Game: Metal Gear Rising (2013)

You can blame the modern audience for not playing more than a few games in their whole lives, most of which are cutscenes-heavy games, not gameplay-focused like MGR or Devil May Cry. If a new DMC were to come out today the average modern gamer would be so trash at it, only veterans would enjoy it.

Modern games COULD do that, the problem is the optimization behind it with UE 5 which will make the game running at 20fps on a medium config and barely get 60 fps on a high end config. Combine that with Ray tracing and stuff and i'll just make the games unplayable.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but they can. It's pretty basic: code it to take the model, split it across a plane, then make 2 physics objects from the separate pieces of the model. Although the only modern example of this I can think of is the wood logs at the start of Astro Bot.

They can, it's actually pretty simple. The problem is more making this add value

its the fact that it was a facet of a larger experience that played into it all, in a cool dynamic way while the rest had more to offer Indie dev may do this today but it becomes the whole game in a strong focused sense. no breadth in its scope

I mean most old games cannot do that either, MGR was the exception not the standard

It probably can, creativity and ingenuity have taken a backseat in recent years, devs are to too fixated on blatant and unorganic ways to shoehorn personal views into games to focuse on interesting gameplay, you can blame corporate trend chasing and toxic positivity for that

Neither could games back then. This is a tech demo.

cyberpunk 77 literally does this with enemies you kill in melee (sword and wire). also, its simple math to do, GODOT DEVS can do it!!

We did this shit on the Wii. But I guess that's also not modern anymore.

yes, because Platinum Games probably owns the software patent for the Cutting System. same reason no one else can use Rocksteady's Nemesis system on other games...

Low key take. It will be a non sens that every game do that if it's not they're main selling point. It make sense here. Every studios can do this if it's they're main feature. With all your stupid take your part of the problem why the gaming industry has problems to evolve.

Ur right, modern games are too concerned with "realism" now. Imagine the genetic modification needed to make a human-sized watermelon. Not feasible today.

Modern games don't want to, because this concept is silly and retarded and has no practicality

Pc games can because we have access to the wonderful world of mods to make games exactly how we want them.

New wolverine game is literally doing this. You can even view the trailer they released during the Sony State of Play announcement that was like a week or two ago. One slash will cut apart objects, multiple will shred it into pieces, and even sever enemy limbs or decapitate them
