The only reason the GDP metric is rated lower is because the calculation still uses the 2011–12 base year, which the IMF considers outdated for a rapidly changing economy. From February 2026, the base year will be updated, and this is expected to improve India’s rating even further. Those who once placed India in the “Fragile Five” should at least acknowledge the progress India has made.
