A 26-year-old man, identified as Tarun, was allegedly beaten to death in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar JJ Colony during Holi celebrations on March 4. However, locals, while speaking with FOEJ Media, said that there had been a dispute between the two sides for several years. According to residents, the incident began when a woman from the accused family, who lives in Tarun’s neighborhood, was passing through the area while some of Tarun’s relatives were playing Holi. They allegedly threw a balloon filled with dirty water at her. The woman reportedly objected, saying that she observes religious practices such as fasting and offering namaz, and questioned how such an act could be done to her. Amid the argument, Tarun allegedly came out of his house and misbehaved with the woman. The woman then returned home and informed her brother about the incident. Locals claim that before her brother could arrive at the spot, Tarun had already called several men from his gym, who allegedly beat them with rods. Following the incident, tensions have escalated in Uttam Nagar’s JJ Colony. The area’s main market, where most shops are owned by members of the Muslim community, has reportedly remained closed for the past four days. Shopkeepers fear that if they reopen their shops, members of Bajrang Dal might vandalize the market or assault them. Residents also claim that several Muslim families have left their homes due to fear in the aftermath of the incident.

If I had made any disrespectful remarks during an active session of Parliament, why was the matter not immediately brought to the notice of the Hon’ble Speaker at that very moment? Kakoli Madam certainly has every right to raise a complaint, but it is equally important to clarify when exactly the alleged incident took place and why no objection was raised then. In the changing political climate, there now appears to be an unhealthy competition among the so-called “good Trinamool leaders” over who can attack the Trinamool Congress more aggressively in order to appear morally superior. However, I too shall write to the Hon’ble Speaker and respectfully ask why sanction for prosecution has still not been granted in the Narada corruption case against the individual who was seen on camera accepting money, and against whom the CBI had already filed a chargesheet.

Lt. Gen Dumisane Khumalo and a Major General were instructed by IDAC to present themselves at the station. They were informed that they would be arrested. However, after what is alleged to have been a phone call from “the top”, the instruction was abruptly reversed and both senior officers were told not to come to the station. General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi also arrived saying he heard they wanted him as well. IDAC did not arrive. South Africans deserve answers. Who intervened? Why was the decision changed? Was there insufficient evidence, a procedural issue, or external interference? Why were the warrants issued? What charges, if any, do the men face? This is part of the story of our now deceased comrade, Marinos Alexandria, who died in the wee hours of this morning after a while of getting treatment for the torture ocassioned upon her. She was abducted and tortured by security operatives, the UPDF spokesperson confirmed they had detained her, but released her days later without charge. So why didn't they take her to police or court if she had committed a crime? Why did they release her with torture marks and signs of abuse after holding her in incommunicado detention? Why did police where she went afterwards to report send her away without filing her complaint against the abduction and torture? Why did the Uganda Human Rights Commission pay a deaf ear to the complaint she raised with them? Many questions, few answers!
