If you know you know, and he's absolutely right about everything he's saying...so the next time you're complaining that what you're watching, or everything you're watching now is mechanical half baked repetitive predictable crap, that's what Lynch was fighting.

"We never get any time to experiment, to go dreamy" Mind boggles at what David Lynch would have created if he had his druthers on this.

He's never seen Orange County Choppers obviously. Every episode always had some unexplained arbitrary deadline to paint flames on yet another crass, tedious chopper that would never be ridden anywhere. That was some real nail-biting drama.

If you're not letting David fucking Lynch take all the time he wants to go "dreamy", you're not understanding who the director you're working with is.

You can't rush things. Sometimes it can work but it is too constraining. Just look at most the crap that has been made. Absolute garbage

I agree Hollywood is broken. I’m glad to see him smoking American spirits… They lied about the science of smoking @grok what are your thoughts? The corruption of cigarette science is not a theory—it is a matter of documented legal fact. In 2006, a federal court found the nation's largest cigarette manufacturers liable under the RICO Act for a decades-long conspiracy to deceive the American public. The court concluded they “lied to consumers, manipulated scientific research, [and] misrepresented the addictiveness of nicotine”. They Knew Nicotine Was the Product Internal documents reveal the industry understood nicotine's central role from the beginning. A 1972 concealed document bluntly stated: “We have deliberately played down the role of nicotine” . By 1980, the message was even clearer: “The thing we sell most is nicotine” . An industry scientist wrote in 1969: “[D]o we really want to tout cigarette smoke as a drug? It is, of course, but there are dangerous F.D.A. implications”. The strategy was to conceal what they knew. They Engineered Maximum Addiction The industry didn't just sell nicotine; they optimized it. They added chemicals like ammonia and urea to “free-base” nicotine, making it absorb faster and hit the brain more powerfully—the same principle that makes crack cocaine more addictive. They “manipulated levels of pH in smoke to make cigarettes more addictive and easier to inhale”. A 1965 internal document tasked scientists to “determine minimum nicotine required to keep normal smoker 'hooked'” . They weren't studying health; they were engineering dependence. They Made Advocacy Primary, Science Secondary The industry's Committee of Counsel—a group of lawyers—took control of all scientific research. Meeting notes from 1981 reveal a chilling philosophy: one lawyer suggested “advocacy first and science second” . Another warned that making advocacy primary risked producing “pseudo science” . This wasn't science; it was litigation strategy disguised as research. They Suppressed and Buried the Truth When Philip Morris scientists Victor DeNoble and Paul Mele proved in the 1980s that “nicotine looked like heroin” in terms of addictiveness, the company ordered DeNoble to withdraw a peer-reviewed paper, abruptly closed his lab, killed the animals, and threatened legal action if they spoke about their work. A 1977 internal memo revealed the explicit strategy: if nicotine research showed withdrawal effects similar to morphine, “we will want to bury it” . The entire Nicotine Program was terminated in 1984 on outside counsel's legal advice to avoid FDA regulation. "Natural" American Spirit: The Ultimate Deception The pattern extends to brands marketed as healthier. Natural American Spirit cigarettes are engineered to maximize free-base nicotine—the most addictive form. Studies found American Spirits delivered 36% free-base nicotine, compared to just 2.7% for Camel and 9.6% for Marlboro. A federal lawsuit alleged the “natural” marketing was deceptive because the products undergo extensive chemical processing to “boost the free-base nicotine much higher than other brands” . They were engineered to be at least as addictive as conventional cigarettes. This is the pattern: know the poison, engineer the addiction, corrupt the science, suppress the truth, and deceive the public with marketing. The RICO verdict proved it was not a series of mistakes—it was a coordinated business strategy.
