The IDF and Shin Bet confirm that the body of Hamas leader Mohammed Sinwar was found by troops in a tunnel that ran underneath the European Hospital in southern Gaza's Khan Younis. The body was taken from the tunnel, used by Hamas as a command center, on Saturday, after troops reached the hospital several days prior. Several other bodies, belonging to other Hamas operatives, were also taken. The military says that following an identification process, it is now confirmed that one of the bodies belongs to Sinwar, who was killed in an Israeli strike on the tunnel on May 13. The strike also killed Muhammad Shabana, commander of the terror group's Rafah Brigade, and Mahdi Quara, commander of the South Khan Younis Battalion. Also in the tunnel, the military says it located several items belonging to Sinwar and Shabana, including ID cards. Weapons were also found. The IDF says the other bodies are still undergoing an identification process.

On October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists invaded Zikim Beach using speed boats. The Israeli Navy prevented a far worse massacre by destroying several of the Hamas boats before they could reach the shore, but more than a dozen terrorists managed to reach the shore. Several of the beachgoers tried to hide in the bathroom at the beach, and others fled to a nearby bomb shelter, but Hamas slaughtered them. 17 civilians, ages 17-70, were murdered at Zikim Beach. The terrorists then tried to attack Kibbutz Zikim, but the community's civil defense squad fought back and prevented the terrorists from invading the kibbutz.
