I helped a friend get all her Cancer Hospital bills paid back in the 70’s. If a Hospital had received Federal $ for anything, they had to provide free health care under the Hill-Burton act. I only knew because I served on a Health Systems Agency Committee.

The hospitals tell you this, it’s no secret. There are giant posters on the wall at registration, pamphlets everywhere explaining it, and it’s printed on your bill that they have it. If you don’t read any of it and take advantage of it then that’s on you.

Very true. Had an ER visit where I found out the provider was out of network. The bill was astronomical & found out they had a charity program. When it hit collections - I made an $100 payment (just so they’d stop calling) but once the program took way, I didnt pay another dime

This is true. I really needed an MRI and couldn’t afford it. I applied for financial assistance and got it for free. I only had to pay $200 for the radiologist’s report.
