Kathy Hochul’s law banning New York police from cooperating with ICE is now in effect. 15 sheriffs are suing her and Letitia James over it. Hochul’s response? Sue the sheriffs back. One sheriff put it plainly: this law is dangerous. It blocks 287(g) agreements, blocks housing ICE detainees, and creates a new office to police the cops who want to work with federal agents. ICE is going after criminals. New York just told local law enforcement they can’t help. That’s not keeping New Yorkers safe. That’s protecting the people ICE is trying to remove.
