More than 100 people have been killed and several others missing after an artisanal gold mine collapsed in western Central African Republic (CAR) near the border with Cameroon, according to a Red Cross volunteer involved in the relief effort.

How dreadful. Those poor people. We never hear of CAR and it looks very underdeveloped. In 1984, we defended the UK miners striking for their jobs; but mining always was hard and dangerous. Looks as if there's little chance of alternative jobs by the numbers lost. Very sorry.
