More than 2,000 people with autism and learning disabilities are stuck in mental health hospitals across England, despite repeated Government promises to end the practice. Nicholas Thorton is one of them - this is his story.

@KathyBurke Government scrapped disability minister in the last reshuffle. But we have a minister for common sense??? This government has no time, care or respect for people with disabilities.

@vsmacdonald IT'S CRAZY, IN THE NHS WHERE I WORK THEY SPENT YEARS SORTING AN AUTISM STRATEGY IT'S ABOUT 80 PAGES I CHECKED THROUGH IT ALL AND IT IS PAGES OF NONSENSE WITHOUT ONE IDEA ON HOW TO ADDRESS IT, THESE PEOPLE IN MANAGEMENT ROLES IN THE NHS ARE BASKET CASES

@vsmacdonald And many of them denied proper MRI scans like Elizabeth and given a MH label Elizabeth is on a never ending section and not getting better but my blog applies to everyone not just MH as they are not getting reliable scans

Health Secretary Wes Streeting is launching an independent review into the rising demand for mental health, ADHD and autism services in England. It will look at whether there is evidence of over-diagnosis and what gaps in support there are. Around 1.3 million people claim disability benefits primarily for mental health or behavioural conditions, some 44% of all claimants.

Its research found just 14% are in good ecological health - while not a single body of water is safe from toxic chemicals. Campaigners said England's rivers were some of the filthiest in Europe - despite repeated Government promises to clean them up.
