The errors of Protestantism are manifest and won’t be solved here. But @Ligonier this video is striking in its distortions, ignorance of history, condescension of our Christian forebears, arrogance and blatant hypocrisy. Shame on you. You reduce the Roman Catholic Church of Luther’s era to nothing more than a dark “shadow” using its “dominance to keep people in the darkness of superstition”. You dismiss the faith of prior centuries and of millions of Christians and martyrs as nothing more than superstition. Never mind those Christians, properly called Catholics, are responsible for the very Bible you derisively claim no one read nor understood until Luther. And which is read from no fewer than three times in every holy Mass in every Catholic Church, mutiple times daily, around the world. The sun literally never sets on the holy Mass being said and the Bible being read. Moreover, for nearly 400 years of the early church - There. Was. No. Bible. This is because the Catholic Church *predated* the Bible. But you know that. Yet you persist with “sola Scriptura” as the sole means of salvation. Your hypocrisy continues: The late RC Sproul states that those superstitious Catholics relied only “…on the thought leaders and tastemakers of the day to tell them what was in the Bible and whether or not to believe it”. In the same breath Sproul arrogates to himself and Ligonier “who can say what’s true”, how to reconcile who God is, “what [Christians] believe and why they believe it”. The gall. Far from a day of celebration, we should mourn the day Luther was ever consecrated a monk. He and his contemporaries are directly responsible for the growing darkness in which we now live. Protestantism leads to Secularism. Secularism leads to Liberalism. Liberalism leads to Relativism. Relativism leads to Nihilism. <— We are here. Don’t agree with the Roman Catholic Church? Fine. But puffing yourself up as the arbiters of Truth while simultaneously condescending the Church of (rightly) doing the same thing is too much. Even for you.
