Modular robots that repair themselves by... stealing parts! 👀 A team at Columbia University built robots made of Truss Links, stick-shaped modules with magnetic connectors at each end. Connect a few and you get a structure that can expand, contract, roll, and reshape itself. If a link breaks or comes loose, the robot grabs a spare module nearby and rebuilds itself. No human intervention needed. A tetrahedron-shaped robot grabbed a spare link like a walking stick. ~~ ♻️ Join the weekly robotics newsletter, and never miss any news →

Elon Musk on the possibilities offered by the combination of Optimus and Neuralink: “Long term is to say, if you take parts of the Optimus humanoid robot and you combine that with a Neuralink, let's say somebody has lost their arms or legs. Well, we could actually attach an Optimus arm or Optimus legs and do a Neuralink implant so that the motor commands from your brain that would go to your biological arms, now go to your robot arms or robot legs. And again, you'd have basically Cybernetics Superpowers.”

On the spacecraft factory floor, or in the proof pressure cell, we're busy testing Orion! At NASA's Kennedy Space Center, Lockheed Martin Mechanical Test Engineer Lauren-Ann Graham is part of the team performing testing on the spacecraft that will carry crew to ARCHIVED: Gateway Lunar Space Station on #Artemis IV.

Robots help us do tasks in space that are too dangerous or challenging for humans. We’re working on a new generation of robotic spacecraft that can work together without being controlled by astronauts or teams on Earth:

A modular data glove built for robot learning. ENSURING’s Magic Glove uses quick-release sensor modules, combining 15 motion-tracking units, 1,000+ tactile sensing points, and real-time 6-axis force data. The modular design is the interesting part here: sensors can be swapped or reconfigured depending on the task, making it a more flexible interface for teleoperation, dexterous manipulation, and embodied AI data collection.

This magnetic levitation robot system literally hovers and glides in ANY direction on modular tiles: - NO contact? ✅ - NO belts? ✅ - NO tracks? ✅ - NO friction? ✅ Planar Motors built the factory of tomorrow

VLA policies learn generalist robot behaviors from massive teleoperation datasets, hoping that the right behavior emerges. But they rarely use perception during training or inference: powerful foundation models of 3D geometry, semantics, or human motion are ignored. TimSong, Long Le, and our GRASP Laboratory team introduce Omniguide, based on a simple idea: Instead of retraining policies, let perception guide action at inference time. We express diverse guidance sources as attractive and repulsive energy fields in 3D space and inject their gradients into the generative process of VLA policies. This lets perception modules steer actions without retraining the policy: A modular path toward composable robot intelligence. Project: Paper:

Excited to announce Tau Robotics (Tau Robotics). We are building a general AI for robots. We start by building millions of robot arms that learn in the real world. In the video, two robot arms are fully autonomous and controlled by a single neural network conditioned on different language instructions (four axes and five axes robot arms). The other two arms are teleoperated. The entire hardware cost in the video is about $1400. The video is at 1.5x speed.

LimX TRON 2 can easily walk while carrying a 30kg tire. Don't be surprised if, in the future, it is used for rescue operations or outdoor transport tasks… This is a modular robot platform capable of transforming into a biped, a quadruped, or a centaur humanoid robot.

This is NASA’s Astrobee, a cube-shaped robot that flies freely inside the ISS to help astronauts with daily tasks. It can move using built-in fans, navigate with vision sensors, and work either on its own or be controlled from Earth. Some versions have robotic arms that can detect and grab objects, and this tech could be used in the future to remove space debris or service satellites.
