You learn responsibility because there are things that need to get done. You learn patience because animals need care every day. You learn independence because you have room to explore. We are the first generation of men my age where we're seeing the dads take on different role" Years ago when as a kid I learnt that Prophet Muhammad cleaned, cooked, mended his own clothes, milked animals, helped with general chores, emphasising fairness in domestic life, I wondered how it is that there are so many British Muslim men (and of course non Muslim men too) who are waited on hand and foot by the women in their households, have never been in a kitchen (to cook or clean), let alone picked up a vacuum cleaner or helped out with any household chores, whatsoever Yet when you ask about religion, almost all will say they're good Muslims, following the sunnah (example of the Prophet), will fast in Ramadan, will pray five times a day, etc. Between how inspirational leaders live their lives, and how those who insist they follow inspirational leaders live their lives exists a huge void of integrity masked by ego, pride, casual sexism/misogyny and some obscure indirect view that women's purpose in life is servitude to men It is of course us to each family to decide how they wish to manage the running of their household and agree what works for them, but the emotional manipulation, societal and often by misrepresenting religious texts, should not be the foundation upon which anyone charts out a path in the home; a place which is meant to be the most sacred safe space for all I am glad that there are in each generation men with high profiles who will call this negative behaviour out, as David Gandy is doing so here in this interview on the BBC's flagship Sunday morning news program And for my fellow Muslim men, in a hadith (saying of Prophet Muhammad), a man once complained he was busy with work and could not attend to household responsibilities. Prophet Muhammad said, "Do not be harsh or neglectful toward those under your care, for the one who is not merciful will not receive mercy" (Sahih Muslim) In traditional sunni Islam, this is direct advice emphasizing household involvement as part of moral and spiritual duty In households of South Asian heritage in the UK, 83% report that women do the household chores - it's time for men of South Asian heritage to have a little humility and step up

Tales of Wudan - STRAW PILLOWS Atop Wudan, the nights were always especially cold. We would sleep on concrete floors with straw pillows and blankets were forbidden. Many of the students would opt to do their chores in the middle of the night in an attempt to stay warm and then try to steal sleep during meditation in the warmer afternoons. Of course, Po was aware of this, and every so often would pluck a perpetrator from morning exercise and beat him severely. It’s a risk many children took, for it is very difficult to sleep when you are cold. But I wanted to feel like a weapon. Not to have a weapon or use a weapon - I wanted to BE and FEEL like a weapon. When I walk the streets, I feel a way most men can never feel. And to do that, I have endured 10,000 cold nights. When I graduated as a Master of Wudan I spent many years roaming from town to town. One day I fell in love. She said she would stay with me forever, sickness and health, no matter what. That I am the sword and she is the sheath, and we need each other. I believed her. She believed her. So I rented a small room. Concrete floor and straw pillow. I forbid us to touch - only body heat can be shared. She asked how long we must do this, and my answer was simple: “Until mastery is attained.” When I woke the following morning she was gone. I never saw her again. I believe she loved me, I believe she wanted me. But there is a difference between the wants and needs of a normal person, and a Master such as myself. When I hear others talk of love, I pity them. How can you be in love on expensive holidays and sharing takeaway? None of you are in Love. Not to the standard of Wudan. Doubt me? Place her on a concrete floor, with a straw pillow.

A 42-year-old man was arrested on Monday for allegedly killing his three daughters with a sharp weapon in Giridih district, police said. The accused was identified as Nandu Yadav, a resident of Turukdiha village. Police said the victims were Yadav's eldest daughter Pallavi, 16, and 7-year-old twin sisters Riddhi and Siddhi. "He was arrested shortly after the incident," said Jeetvahan Oraon, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), who visited the spot where the bodies were found lying in a pool of blood. Police said his wife, Radha Devi, and their youngest child, 4-year-old son Pantu, were at home, when Yadav killed his daughters around 6 am. Devi told police her husband returned home drunk on Sunday night. She said she helped him bathe, served him dinner and he went to sleep. On Monday morning, she noticed he was unusually quiet. "I asked him why he drank so much, but he did not respond," she said. Devi said she became busy with household chores when Yadav took the three girls into a room, locked it from inside and told the family the children needed to study and that he would teach them. A short while later, he came out and allegedly confessed he had killed them. Police said the girls' throats were slit using a sharp-edged tool used for cutting grain. "I don't know why he killed them. My daughters were innocent and good children," Devi said. During interrogation, Nandu claimed "a ghost possessed him" and that he did not know what he had done. He also said a year ago he ate meat and was thereafter possessed, adding that it was "God's plan". Devi also alleged an extramarital relationship may be behind the killings. A forensic team collected blood samples and other evidence. Police said the suspected weapon was recovered. "We are investigating the circumstances and motive," the SDPO said.
