Masvingo’s popular airtime vendor Ronald Machema, widely known as Rony, has broken his silence after being released under the Presidential Amnesty and is now pleading for forgiveness. Rony was convicted of fraud and theft after duping an unsuspecting victim who trusted him deeply of over $1,250. He convinced Ecocash agent Nickson Kwirirai to send $1,250 to two different accounts, claiming the money was urgently needed by a popular businessman, but it later turned out he was lying. After serving time in prison, Rony says he regrets stealing the money and regrets getting convicted. He is asking his victim for forgiveness and is advising people not to commit crime, saying the consequences are not worth it.
